tampons

Question Posted Tuesday April 22 2008, 7:50 pm

15/f
i've had my period for a while now and have always used pads, but i really want to use tampons. they just seem so much easier. i've tried inserting them before, but i'm having a little bit of trouble. it won't go all the way in. there's always like half an inch of the tampon sticking out after i take away the applicator. i can't push it in anymore because it hurts. i'm following all the instructions they give you and i don't think i'm doing anything wrong, it just won't go in. any tips on how to do it? and how can i get it to go ALL THE WAY in?
thanks.

What's going on with you is nothing out of the ordinary. You just need to get comfortable. Find a comfortable spot, like your bed. What's happening is that your pelvic muscles are contracting, and aren't letting the tampon go in all the way. Just relax on your bed, take deep breaths, and THEN try inserting the tampon.. slowly.

Hope that halped.

Maybe your using one that is too big?
Try using Pearl regular tampons, there smaller then original tampons.

First of all, this is one of the most common problems possible to have with tampons. I'll try to be as clear as possible hear, but please tell me if you have any other questions.

With an applicator, there are two parts. When the applicator is at its full length, you should hold the bottom part of the top half of the applicator and try pushing all of the top half in first(the bit with the tampon inside)before you actually start pushing the syringe-type bottom half of the applicator. Note: You should do all of this while sitting on the toilet, it will make it a lot easier. If you struggle to get the part holding the tampon inside, try changing direction and dont be afraid. A little resistance or an uncomfortable feeling is normal. If it hurts a lot, dont force it too much. You could try using a lighter flow tampon until your body gets used to it, but it will be easier to push it in and out when you are on your heaviest flow.

Okay, once you have the first half in, and are ready for the syringe-type bit, hold the very bottom of the top half of the applicator and use your index finger to push the syringe. It should be completely pushed for the tampon to be where it is supposed to.

Once you have pushed the end bit in all the way, you should be able to safely remove the applicator and dispose of it without tugging at the tampon string. When you take the tampon out again, make sure you pull the string really gently and slowly.

Dont worry if it doesnt work though, I know plenty of people my age with this problem. Just feel free to contact me =]

Hope to have helped =]
