electric guitar music

I have played acoustic guitar for about 6 months and I have mostly only played songs with chords. I have done a few easy tab songs or intros of songs.
I am thinking of buying an electric guitar except I don't know what sort of songs I will have to play. Will I have to learn tab really well? and will I have to learn completely different songs?
Is it worth buying?
Can anyone give me some songs for electric guitar that will be easy for me to play if I'm just starting electric guitar (but remember I can play acoustic)

ok basicly, electric guitar is a lighter guage string than acoustic,and you plug it into an amp. same notes, fingerings, all that good stuff. so just play the same songs you do on acoustic, but try your chords, and all that first
