When I got mine done I didn't think it hurt that much. It's one click of the piercing gun and then it's over. However, some people experience pain after they get their ear pierced, and not necessarily because of infection. If you sleep on your side I would suggest getting your piercing on the side you don't sleep on, because it can be uncomfortable to have pressure on it for awhile after you get it done. As for earrings, whatever you like works; however, most places you go to get your ear pierced will have a small selection of earrings for you to choose from. Make sure the earring you get is real silver or gold as this will help avoid infection. A stud is the best option for a new piercing, as for size it's whatever you're comfortable with. Later on you could also get a hoop. [ aidenisfire's advice column | Ask aidenisfire A Question ]

1) I've heard that it does hurt quite a bit, but only for a second.
2) Diamond studs or little gold hoops look nice in cartilage.
