WHAT'S GOING ON WITH HIM?!

so im single, which can be a good and bad thing. but i always joke around with my cousin nick saying "hook me up with one of the hockey boys from your school" because i think some of them are cute. well he was like okay i'll hook you up with ryan. i was like alright (thinking he wouldnt say anything) and then like three days later he texted me and was like i found you a new boyfriend and you have you go on a date with him no matter what! and im like yea okayy.. who is it. and hes like ryan! and he was like yeah someone on the team said that i had a hot cousin and i had your senior pictures in my wallet and showed him and he thought you were really hot ;) and i was like ohhhhh really. i think he is hot too! but i knew that he had a girlfriend or USE to. so i asked my cousin, doesnt he have a girlfriend? and hes like no i guess they broke up a while ago? and so my cousin keeps saying that he is still going to "hook us up" and stuff but in ryans "girlfriend or ex girlfriend?" myspace its like RYAN with a heart and in her aim profile i guess she put the date they started going out (but she didnt have it in there before?) so now im confused, i'd really like to get to know this kid, everyone says we'd be so cute together but now i dont know if he never broke up with his girlfriend, or is going back out with her or what? i dont want to keep bugging my cousin about it. what do you think i should do? it would be a bummer if they were going out and i guess he's not a player so i dont think he'd try to play us.
im just confused, and think i have my hopes up..

ask your cousin to get him and you in the same room. it doesnt have to be you two alone, but where you guys can talk. ask him if he has a girlfriend, you need to find out FROM HIM, not a secondary source. whether he does or doesnt, you guys can still talk and be friends, but if he does, then, well, you probably know, he is off limits. but if you guys get to know each other and he really likes you, hey, you cant stop him from breaking up with his girlfriend for you, right ? so basically, talk to him and get to know him, first as a friend, and if he is single, maybe you guys can get to know each other a little better than "just friends"

Well, first things first, you need to ask him straight up if he's in a relationship. The worst thing that you could do is to be all over a guy when he's already with another girl.
If he is, he's off limits.
If he's single, go for it, and flirt!
