i returned some clothes at Christmas at a store, and really i wanted the money but when the cute guy at the place asked me if i wanted store credit/ put it on a gift card i said yeah. and im going to the mall tomarrow, do you think that if i ask for the money on the card they'll give it to me?

no, they won't give you cash. And if you buy something and return it, they will put it back on a gift card since that was the payment you used to purchase the product with. If you wanted cash back, you probably should have not taken the gift card:( Sorry.

I really don't think they will, becuase my friend tried and they didn't allow it. But all you can do is ask.
