Question Posted Monday February 4 2008, 4:37 pm

so i've been with my boyfriend for 9 months now and i'm very sure about us. when we are going out for atleast a year i want to have sex with him. i'm 17 years old and i feel that i'm ready, the only thing holding me back is that i won't have birth control. i would deffinitley use a condom but i'm so scared about getting pregnant. is there any advice you can give me on not being so nervous about it?

Here's the thing about sex, it's almost like playing Russian Roulette if you are protected 100%. With that kind of pressure, no wonder there is so much nervousness.

If you are intent on having sex with him, (by all means, if it will make you happy then do it) I would suggest going to your local health department and getting on birth control. If you are planning on doing this, birth control starts working one month after you have started taking it, giving you 2 months to be totally prepared. This way, you won't have any worries about it because you are taking two different approaches to birth control. Also, the health department can absolutely NOT tell anyone, including your parents, about you coming in to get birth control.

That is the best advice I can give you. I had a friend who had a baby at the age of 15, she wasn't ready, but she had to deal with it. If you make sure to protect yourself, you can have fun and still avoid any complications. Good Luck!!
