1. How do put any kind of patterned background behind a gray and white pic?
2. How do you change the colors of certain places? (like the clothes change from green to pink and it looks real and natural.)
3. (Sorry, I don't have a pic to show it) I'm friends with a layout provider on Myspace, and they had text with a pattern inside it. To be more specific, it was cursive text. (I want to learn how to do that with cursive and any other kind of text :]) It looked 3D, and it had a pattern in it. Like there were diff patterns in certain letters, and it had polkadots, maybe stripes, and diff colors. Is it possible to do that in Gimp?
Websites or anything would be greatlyyyy appreciated!!! <333
1. To do that, you probably want layer masks, or copying/pasting. I would be inclined to go with the layer masks.
In your layers dialogue, which you can access through the file menu in the main window, I believe, you should have at least two layers: one with your image, and one with your desired background. Now, right click on whichever layer is on top, and select "Add layer mask." Now, with black and white, you're going to "paint" the areas that you want to show/not to show. If you use shades of grey, they'll partially show.
Make sure you have the layer mask selected (it doesn't matter if you chose all black, or all white--either way you have to paint). Choose the opposite color of your layer mask and a paint brush size that will allow you to quickly do the majority of what you want to show, or what you want to hide. Now paint over the area that you want to change. It should start to either disappear, or appear, depending on what you chose. Fill in the details with a smaller brush at the end.
2. Layer masks are again your friend. Follow the same pattern as above, selecting the area to show that you want to change the colour. Now you have a few options. You can use different layer modes such as overlay, or, what I prefer, you can do many adjustments through the layer menu. There should be several options here, to change the colour, just experiment to find what you like best.
3. Yup, definitely possible. First, write your text. Then use the select contiguous regions tool to choose the letter you want. Finally, choose a pattern you want to fill it with, or find an image and paste it. It will fill only the selected area.
