**Blubster is safer than most, but it still shares automatically.**

You are safe if you are only downloading. It's illegal, but the copyright holders don't care about it that much, so they don't look for it. So it is completely safe downloading directly from a website.

However, all P2P applications(limewire, frostwire, bittorrent, KaZaA, etc) automatically upload as they download, and you might eventually be caught for that. The copyright holders look for people who upload, and especially people who upload a lot.

If you get caught, you will have to pay 2 to 20 thousand dollars.

To avoid being caught:
-Don't use KaZaA, imesh, or bearshare
-Use bittorrent whenever possible
-Don't be the original uploader of content unless you know what you're doing, and how to prevent them from finding out it was you
-Don't use a bad ISP: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
-Use secure P2P like nodezilla and OFF
-Don't be stupid

Read my answer here to find out exactly how they figure out what you're downloading, and how they're not monitoring everyone:

Companies randomly track people who download things illegally online. Your chances of being selected are pretty slim, but if you are caught there is a pretty hefty fine involved depending on how much you have downloaded.
