I'd rather like/love someone and not have it reciprocated than have someone have feelings for me and have me not feel anything for them.
I'd rather go through the pain than put someone else through it. I wouldn't want to feel bad for flirting with someone because that persons feelings will be hurt.

see now for me, i'd rather love and not beloved, because i know that feeling, and for me to know i'm doing that to someone i'd just feel way too sorry.
however.. maybe if you chose your first one you could try to be friends and help them get over you rather than just saying sorry i'm not interested and never speaking to them you know?
