i wanna go to school to be a journalist when i get outta high school. since you are older than me and really close to going to college, do you know any colleges that are good to major in journalism from?? alott of people are telling me its like really hard to graduate and become successful in journalism but i really don't know. i just know that that's really what i wanna do when i get older. any tips??
Keep in mind that at many schools journalism is not shown as a major. At some schools journalism is a specific track of the Communications major. So just because you don't see journalism on the list doesn't mean it isn't offered.
Also you may want to look into public relations, advertising, radio, or broadcasting as well. Find out about each of these fields as well, to help you make a decision.
People will say it is hard to get a degree, but that is mainly because it is a lot of writing. If you don't like writing then you probably shouldn't be a journalist. There are jobs in this field, but remember that you wont start out writing for the New York Times, you have to work your way up to the top. Don't let others discourage you from what you want to do.
If they are available at your high school join the newspaper staff (if you aren't on it already) take a television production class, public speaking, creative writing classes or clubs. All of these will help prepare you for college.
When you visit colleges you are interested in make an appointment to meet with someone from the communications dept. They will be able to give you insight about the school and the journalism program, and you can ask them any questions you have.
