cartiledge piercing

Question Posted Wednesday November 7 2007, 4:20 pm

I got my cartiledge pierced in the beginning of august of this year and the other day i noticed a small bump under it and it started pussing and bleeding. I took out the piercing and cleaned the area with alcohol swabs. I just tried to put in the piercing a little while ago and it won' go in, i looked in the back of my ear where the piercing should go through and it seems to have closed up alrady, is this possible or is it just scarred skin. Im not sure what to do i don't wnat this hole to close up because I want to put my piercing back in.

when i got my nose pierced a bump started to form right next to the piercing. The girl i work with told me it was a cyst. You should have kept the piercing in but since you didn't i would recommend waiting about a month or two and go get it repierced. Its going to hurt more the second time because you are going thru more soft tissue and plus your getting it pierced in the same spot. The bump would have gone away ( mine did )

Of course it's possible. I really recommend you leave it. Forcing it back through can make the bump worse because as of now, it's not clear what it is. It can also be easier for infections to start.
If I were you, I would wait a month and get it re-pierced if you really want it in the same spot.
The same thing happened to me with a nose piercing. I couldn't get it back in for the life of me and it made the bump worse, so I left it to heal and repierced it at a later date.
As for the bump, it could be caused by a few different reasons.
*Bad quality jewelry
*Accidently hitting the piercing and maybe even not remembering
*Keloid
I doubt it is a keloid though.
Just a tip:
If you ever get a bump like it again, don't take the jewelry out. What you need to do is apply hot (not too hot)salt water compresses to it for about 15 minutes, 3 times a day. It will take a while, but it will gradually go down. Things like that take time - especially if it's cartilage.
