I had the same thing.

You need to get it cut. Maybe get some layers or get them redone. You'll need to ask to get it thinned out a lot. It will make a huge difference.

Do you have a picture? Maybe big hair flatters your face shape. You should try getting a perm.

Either the Japaneses straightening one or possibly a spiral curl. :]

If you can't get a perm, then you should try buying a straightener after you get your hair cut.

I have one similar:

It works fair well for about $20 but you could go to walmart and pick any one that interests you. I wouldn't buy Conair's ones though. You should buy some frizz-ease products too to make your hair shiny and so the product in your hair keeps your hair in place.

hmm if you want straight hair, you can Japanese straighten it (i dont know how much money your looking into to change your hair up) and cut it shorter, or have it put it layers. the hair stylist CAN thin your hair out.

Having it cut shorter might help, my hair is the same, it isnt curly or straight and it goes frizzy and big when i wash it. I had mine cut and it has helped a little but if you dont want to cut your hair whilst drying it comb it too, it straightens it whilst you are drying. (There are also hair dryers that have a brush at the end you can now buy, i think babyliss sell them)
You could also have your hair chemically straightened but im not sure how much damage that would do to your hair or if it is expensive

I hope i helped
