Question Posted Saturday August 11 2007, 10:55 am

On msn there's a virus going around. Someone says to you something like ''hey look at my great summer pictures'' then it sends you a file which is actually a virus. Then they sign out then sign back in. Three of my friends have it.
Does anyone know what it is called & how to get rid of it??

Many thanks x

welll, it depends on if it's actually downloaded onto the computer or not. it could be a glitch on the server, but if it is in the computer, there are a number of things you can do.

1. eventually, all viruses go away on their own, so if you can wait about 2-4 weeks without using your computer, as in it on at all. i'm not trying to be funny, but viruses do fade

2. you can, if you already have one, run a scan full scan on your computer using an anti-virus program, such as Norton. i wouldn't recommend using a downloaded program, since it can be a virus itself. it may take more than one program to find the virus

3. if you're using a Dell, it usually detects the attempted attack and stops it before it even gets into your system, but this isn't the cause. you can run the Windows Defender installed on the computer and get rid of it that way

4. you can always use the system restore to the date before the attack happened and avoid buying the anti-virus program, but the virus can also worm itself into the files and corrupt them, so it would still be there
