when you are looking at someone else's profile. on the mini-feed does it show if the person wrote on another person's wall and that other person made their profile private?

Yes. For example, even if someone's profile is private, if you write on his/her wall, it will show up on your mini-feed. However, people who are not friends with the other person still can't read it.
