Fitting in with dad

Question Posted Thursday July 26 2007, 1:04 am

14/m Ever since I was young, my dad always wanted me to play football. But I am definitely not the jock type. During my childhood I would prefer to act in the school plays. I feel like my dad isn't very supportive of this. I want to have a good relationship with my dad, but I don't want to give up my first love of acting. I am hoping to have a career in acting, but I want my dad's support all the way. I want my dad to see how important this is to me. What should I do?

First of all, you need better communication with your dad. Some one-on-one time is important. If acting is your passion, your father needs to support you, whether you are the jock or not. If he does not agree with what you want to pursue, follow your dreams; find support from another trusted adult that cares. Keep a good relationship with your father but maybe talk about other things besides sports and theatre.
