AKSherma answered Monday July 23 2007, 2:16 am: I commend you for wanting to be a vet. You do not have to go to med school to go to school to become a vet. You do take a lot of the same classes that you would to become a people doctor. It is a seperate school than medical school after college. Actually, because there are not that many vet schools- it is more difficult to get into a vet school than it is to medical school.
When you're going through vet school you'll learn about the different things that you can do for animals including operating on them etc.
Vets do not get paid as much as "people" doctors because to take care of people is a lot more time consuming and dangerous. Insurance companies pay more for humans than animals.
Unlike medicine- you don't need to do a long post- grad school training. If you went to medical school- you'd have to do a residency in the field that you want which can range from 3 to 10 years.
What you need to do is go to school- college and take the required courses- apply for vet school. It is always good during your summers or in college time to volunteer at a vet's office. It can help in the application process.
