School is starting in like less than a month...
and the cross country team is going to start training really soon. The thing is.. out of about the 200 kids in my class NOBODY is doing cross country because the coach is an ahole.
Plus, i have to run 3 MILES this year if i do it. And i cant stand the coach at all either. I dont do any other sports..i mean i love basketball but isnt it really hard to make the team in highschool?
I've already got running shoes, but my mom said we can return them if we need to. Do most people do sports in highschooL?? Cuz if i dont do cross country i will still go to the health club and run anyway...i just wont have the stupid coach. What should i do?
Additional info, added Monday July 16 2007, 11:28 pm: I'm really not that athletic, although i'm skinny. The only reason i would do cross country is because to be healthy, and i feel like i need to do at least one sport.. Want to answer more questions in the Health & Fitness category? Picket answered Monday July 16 2007, 9:32 am: Well, This will be my first year at highschool and I lovee! to play basketball and pretty much every other sport. If you like playing sports dont let anyone keep you from doing it.. even iff the coach is an ahole.. trust me i have had really bitchy coaches along my way but they do help you get better.. so what im saying is to try out and run as much as you can and if he says otherwise practice harder and prove that asshole wrong:P [ Picket's advice column | Ask Picket A Question ]
vta_bum answered Monday July 16 2007, 4:42 am: Hey, I know how it is. I have ran Cross Country for about 5 years now all together, but 3 in high school. My high School coach is a total ass. Like hardcore favoritism and then some. I know how it is, but a lot of people still dont do sports, and they cope with everyting fine. If your going to stay in shape, it would be a good way to stay in shape but it depends on what type of shape you want to be in. Plus you will be running in the health club so you will still be running and getting exercise. For most of the schools I have heard of if your at least decient at basketball you can make it becasue there usually not much competition, but i dont know how it is at your school.
I dont know what you are doing but, this is what my plan is and i dont know of you school offers you this but if it does it migh help. I am not running cross country this year, i cant stand my coach, but I am doing Track, i dont know if your school has it. Its usually a lot more fun with more people and you wouldnt have to run 3 miles. You will still be doing a sport and being able to run. Thats how i look at it. Hope it kinda helps. Teenagerr answered Monday July 16 2007, 2:13 am: 1] It wasn't very hard for me to make my school's basketball team. Then again, not many people tried out. It depends on how competitive basketball is where you live. If it's a really big deal there, then yeah it'll be harder to make the team. If there aren't many people trying out that you know of then go for it and try.
2] Once again, it depends on the high school. Some school's revolve around sports so many people play them.. other school's are more focused on academics. It all depends on your school.
3] If you're committed to going to the health club and running even without being on the cross country team, then I say go for it. Noone wants to be stuck with a bad coach and you don't want to be one of the only ones on the team. But keep in mind that college's like to see that people play sports.
