in what situations are opiate addicts given methadone? also, could somebody give me information on the dosages? are there side effects of it, or anything? and, how effective is it?

Maybe give some free advice about: Random Weirdos? hotpotato answered Tuesday July 10 2007, 9:58 pm: I am sorry, I don't know the answer to your question but I would like to get the advice ball rolling by saying that I've heard that they wean addicts like heroin users and cocaine abusers and etc off their respective drugs and get them on to a weaker/less harmful one, methadone, which is also a drug but not as detrimental as what they originally were addicted to. These people go to a methadone clinic for this, kind of like a rehab center for them. I am guessing this goes for opiates too.
