Strep Throat

Question Posted Thursday June 28 2007, 1:15 pm

I was diagnosed with Strep throat yesterday. I was put on medication. I have to take 2 doses 3 times a day. So far, I've only had 3 doses. 1 before I went to sleep, 1 in the morning, 1 at lunch, etc etc. I still feel really sick & all but it said it takes a few days to kick in. When would it be ok to start exercising again? I get my fever on & off. The sore throat is still there. I haven't exercised since monday, I got the strep tuesday. When would it be ok to go back to my normal routine? I'm afraid to go right back to it tomorrow because I have only been eating cereals, jello, toast, & crackers. Obviously that isn't enough energy to run but I have been drinking lots of fluids. Should I just start fresh on monday? The reason I'm concerned is because I have an eating disorder & I'm obsessed with running. All I've been doing is laying on the couch & going on the computer. It's been bothering me. Thanks!

Here was my answer:

I would say Monday would be fine. Usually it takes people a week or so to get over strep throat, at least from my friends' experiences. Since you're obviously a runner, I assume you're athletic, and will most likely get over it quicker than most.

And don't worry about gaining weight. If you can any weight at all, it will be less than a pound. I'm sure you'll be able to run anything you do gain off in no time!

Feel better!
