You get the shot in your upper arm, either left or right, it doesn't matter. You will receive three shots total, with two months in between each shot (this is the rate at which the producer is releasing the shots). After those three shots you won't ever need a shot for cervical cancer prevention again. Since you are scared of needles, I suggest you look away when they give you the shot, close your eyes, and if you tend to clench your teeth, take a washcloth or something similar with you to bite on. As for how often, I think its every 2 years.. not sure..

You have to get three shots, but not all at the same time. There should be two to three months in between each different shot.
As far as being scared of the shot, just try not to look, and hold someone's hand. Slightly distract yourself, and don't psyche yourself out. Nothing bad will happen, you'll be fine. Keep that mentality and you'll feel better. [ livingLIKEloversxx's advice column | Ask livingLIKEloversxx A Question ]
