Well, if your cat is just a kitten, then likely she hasn't quite mastered the whole litter box thing. Meaning, she gets poo-paw because she doesn't know to dig enough yet. Though it is a pain, you may have to keep an eye for her to go in her litter box and catch her to wipe her paws clean until she gets the hang of it.

She spreads litter all about because those big chunks of litter get stuck in her little paws and that causes them to get tracked all about.
Something I did for my cat was get Arm and Hammer FLUSHABLE cat litter. The flushable kind is much smaller granules, which makes less litter stuck in her paws. And it is made with baking soda, so it helps with the smell.

Other than having patience for her to completely litter box train, you should make sure to keep it clean at all times. Since kittens aren't the best litter diggers, a lot of mess gets left on the top, and I agree, the smell is unreal.

If she actually smells of litter box, it doesn't hurt to give her a bath now and again, since I have never met a kitten who is the bather they become as adults. She won't like it, but but if she needs it, she needs it.

Try out that litter, ok? See if it helps out with the smell and litter tracking.
