hi, well i was just wandering, are pirate swords normally smaller than the japanese swords? because i was thinking of purchasing one, and am not sure which. thanks.

Pirates in movies use cutlasses*, the traditional Japaneese sword is the katana. They're both about arm's length, in pictures the cutlass appears shorter. I have been able to find that a katana averages 70cm(27.6in) long.


*Real pirates actually didn't use cutlasses. They used backswords and falchions:
