ipod wont update

when i plug my ipod into my computer, the itunes doesnt automatically pop up anymore. this other thing from "my documents" pops up.
and when i go to my itunes to update my ipod, it says that my ipod isnt connected to my computer so i cant update it!
help, how do i fix this? i want to be able to put new songs on my ipod again.

Basically all you have to do is download the new version of iTunes. Trust me it works and it's a lot better!
