In about a week and a half, I will be running a 5K (about 3.1 miles) with some of my friends. We're not in it to win it, but I want to be at least a little bit prepared. I've been running a few miles every day for the past couple of weeks. I'm 15/f, 120 pounds and 5'3"ish, so I'm not looking to lose weight. Is there anything special I should eat, or any stretches or anything? I am already drinking a ton of water. Any advice from people who run would be awesome. Thank you!

Bucket answered Wednesday May 23 2007, 3:13 pm: I've run a 5K before, and I think you're doing a great job already. You're already running a good distance daily, and you're drinking plenty of water. The only thing I suggest as far as food goes is to get plenty of protein and carbohydrates for energy (advice taken straight from the mouth of my coach). As far as stretches go, just make sure to do lots of leg stretches (I'm sure you know how, if you've already been running). Also, try to get a little ab workout in too, because from my experience, if you've been working out your abs, you're less likely to get cramps in your sides from running. =] [ Bucket's advice column | Ask Bucket A Question ]
