I'm not a science geek, don't even think I am, lmao, but I know theres a scientific reason you're attracted to the people you are attracted to, and it's called pheromones and basically it's like how you smell, sorta, and guys are atracted to certain girls pheromones, and girls are attracted to certain guys pheromones. So you may be really attracted to an idiot, but you like him for his smell, sorta, :P. And the one person was right too, it may also be his looks rather than his personality.
Another thing could be, remember when you were little and the guys who liked you pulled your hair and made fun of you, well theres always the possibilty that he likes you and thats why he treats you liek dirt. Guys can be complicated :P.

There could be many reasons.
A lot of girls are attracted to guys who treat them badly. I think a lot of it is that you want to be the one he changes for. You want to be that special girl (I'm assuming you're a girl...?) that tamed the beast. Also maybe you want what you can't have..? Or, like the other person said, you could just like his looks, or maybe just the idea of him, and not actually him.
