i have played lacrosse for 3 years and i know ive improved a lot but i still need help with some things i havent had much of a chance to work on.
normally i play offense, and i think im okay there (usually 2nd or 3rd home). but recently my coach has put me on defense and i feel clueless. can someone give me basic tips for defense in lacrosse?
im on the freshman team this year and next year i want to try out for jv but i would have to have REALLY good stick skills and such because i have no endurance lol, partially due to a "genetic disease" i have haha its incurable anemia basically but im working with it.
so any overall tips for lacrosse at all are good but i need help in particular with defense. thanks!
Always stay on the girl you're defending, unless no one's on the girl with the ball. Always keep your eye on who ever has the ball. If no one is on her, she has a straight path to the goal. If you see that, stop her, even if it means leaving behind the girl you were defending before, because think about it, who's the bigger threat?
Always stay between the ball and the goal.
Keep your stick up.
Talk! Tell the other defenders who you're on, so it's less confusing. If you're defending two people, let your teammates know so someone can take one of them off your hands.

Develop feet work. Quick feet is very useful when on defense. Especially when it comes to lacrosse. If you're a defender, unless if you play some type of zone defense, you'll probably have to guard a person.
One good way to develop feet work is to run ropes or tires.
Oh yeah, and if you're a guy, check the crap out of the offense player. Don't be afraid to hit him as hard as you can as long as you keep the hit legal. If you play dirty and the ref is blind, hit him illegally if possible. If you're a girl, just stay on her and do not stop harassing her stick with your stick.
