Take your regular hot mug of tea. Add (pick one or more - i choose butter all the time): lemon, honey, butter, mint, sugar. This will soothe the pain.
Also, if it starts coming up your nose and you feel like you're gonna get sick with the flu, try this:
Take a small pot. Pour some water in it and bring it to boil. After it's boiled, add some camomile flowers in it and let it sit for a while (no more boiling). After 10 mins or so, take the pot, put it on the table in front of you (do this while sitted down, the process lasts 20 mins), take a towel and cover half your face with the pot under your nose (so the pot's covered at the same time). Breathe in deep through your nose, breathe out through your mouth. Don't stay under the towel for too long..it'll be too hot. Take breaks between a couple of sniffs.
This should help you. I'm kinda in a hurry so I typed it fast but if you need more detailed explanations let me know =).
