I know what people mean when they use the phrase "in the biblical sense". Please don't define it for me or give me a link to urban dictionary. What I want to know is where the phrase comes from. I know what it means, but not the logic behind it. What does being sexual have to do with the Bible? I don't see the connection. Can anybody help me out?
This is really impossible to answer adequately without modifying the question a bit. The phrase in question is really "Do you KNOW her, in the biblical sense?"
The reasoning behind this is that the KJV and many others use this reference interchangeably with "went in unto her" to indicate that sexual relations took place. Examples:
