i have a parakeet, maybe 1 to 2 years old, and a male. lately, i have noticed that the feathers around his beak are a redish color. they have turned more pink now. what could this be from? i dont know if there could be a dye in his food. i feed him Hartz universal diet for small birds. he also has an orange cuttle bone in his cage, but he has never used it, so i dont think that could be it. so what are some possibilities of why his feathers are redish pink?
Get your bird a food made especially for parakeets. That is much more healthier for him. Its about the same price as what you are buying him.
You can buy vitamins for birds that are for their feathers at Wal-Mart. Buy some of those, and put one in his food a day. Those things work miracles.
The cuttle bone, actually isn't food or anything, birds don't eat them. They just rub their beak on them, so it couldn't be that.
I think it could just be from lack of viatamins. Also feeding him food made for him helps his color out. My bird had the same problem, and the vet recommended what I told you. [ tommys_baby's advice column | Ask tommys_baby A Question ]
