ok in the movie Hoot, why does everybody call Roy, Cowgirl?

The person below me is correct. They make fun because apparently he was from Montana. It is just a joke, or tease, that they made fun of him for.

He told people he moved from Montana, so he's being teased about it. Cowgirl is apparently one of the names that his bullies picked up.
