Vivitar Vivicam 5100 digital camera working as a webcam? HOW!?!?!?

Question Posted Thursday July 23 2009, 4:55 am

My computer and my camra are being a pain. See i would like to use my camra as a webcam, according to the websites selling it you are able to use it as a web cam with no extra needed things to buy to make this work. Anyways I have plugged the camra in thro the usb port and a screen pops up on the camra that say disk drive, pc cam and pictbridge. I selected the pc cam and tried to get it to work but the thing said there was one hooked to my computer. I have a Compaq computer and a Vivitar Vivicam 5100. My computer does have a program to install webcams in all image related things but i can't find my brand of camra on there so im sorta wondering if you might be able to tell me how to fix my little problem.

Hi there,

There are a lot of unresolved Vivitar issues and problems cropping up lately on this site, so I did a little investigating to see why there seems to be no support for such a large brand.

I went to the Vivitar homepage:

... and found NO reference at all to the 5100, even though they sold who knows how many millions of these things through outlets like walmart and amazon. Amazed by this, I looked up the contact info:

support@vivitar.com

... and wrote them this:

Hi there,

Can you please tell me where on your site I can fiind support info for the Vivitar 5100 that you made?

I would like a link to download the original software and the manual in pdf format if you have it available.

Thank you very much for not forgetting about me,

DN.

... to which they responded (please notice the sakar.com address for future reference:)

This may take a little longer but we request you to bear with us until you get a response regarding the same.

... SO there you have it. Looks like people with older cameras are in limbo.

Give them an e-mail with the info they requested, and see if they can help.

Let me know in feedback, how this works out for you, if you don't mind.

Happy webcamming!
