laptop/hibernation.

Question Posted Wednesday April 11 2007, 8:08 pm

i have a laptop. when it goes into the hibernation mode [when the screensaver disappears and it just shows a black screen] and when i shut my computer [i have a laptop], my AIM disconnects and, obviously, signs me off. but, if remember correctly, my internet pages i had up will still be there. is there a way i can make my AIM stay on without leaving the computer open? any help is appreciated (:

1. right click on your desktop/background and go to bottom and click on properties.
2. Go to Screensaver tab.
3. Go to under "monitor power" and click on "power...".
4. Go to the Advanced tab.
5. Under "power buttons" change: when i close the lid of my portable computer: "Hibernate" to "Do nothing".
6. Then press okay/apply.

That way when you close your laptop lid it still stays open on your desktop and keeps your aim/etc running. Though you have to realize this is essentially just leaving your computer on.. with the lid closed so if you unplug the battery from it while doing that, it will still use up the battery life and can result in you losing your data/etc.
