There's a couple of things you need to know before doing anything or you could get ripped-off or in trouble. Never pay anyone to represent you period. The only exception to that rule is if you are an extra or belong to a kids agency.

They can charge a small fee as a lot of extras and kids want out when they see it's not glamourous. Do NOT try to get an agent for anything until you have spoken to The Screen Actor's Guild in America or ACTRA in the United States.

They have a list of people who are reputable and a list of people who are not. They can recommend who you should see. Reputable agencies never advertise in the phone book for clients or in the newspapers. This is why you cannot seem to find one even though NYC is crawling with them.

Id someone insists you go to their training programs or pay money for photos bail. When you first start all you need is a basic snap-shot or several color copies of a 8*10 they can send out to casting directors.

Also, the biggest scam going right now are so-called agents that will put your photo on the web so casting directors will see it. This is to rip you off.

You'll never see a day of work from it at all because directors and casting directors do not use the Web to cast anything it's all through agents and nobody works that way period.

Also, if you think you're going to get an agent easily to rep you because you have talent or a kids agency to take you on in a snap it doesnt work that way.

A principal agent (which is an agent that reps a small amount of people) will not take you on because you don't have any credits to your name.

What do you do? If you want to be on set and in a lot of movies especially in NYC or Queens you need to hire a background agency to represent you. They will get you work on set to be an extra on Hollywood films and TV shows/Tv Movies filmed in your area. There's a ton of them all the time.

Call SAG and ask for a list of these agents in your area and visit one with your parents. They are allowed to charge a one time fee each year to you because of the fact that most people after spending 14 hours on a set from whacy hors ie 8 a.m to 1 or 2 a.m. the next day want out.

Having said all that I've been fortunate enough to see actors such as Geena Davis, Dan Aykroyd, John Goodman, Christopher Walken, Michelle Pfieffer, Amanda Bynes, Robin Williams, Charles Bronson and more up close.

That's another tule to tell you about. Once on set do not speak to any actor or try to get an autograph as you'll get booted off the set, loose your agent and never be booked for work again. There's zero tolerance for that unless the actor comes up to shake people's hands or offers to do so.
