Are you guys friends yet? If not (or even if you are) just start hanging around him a lot. Try to be patient, you said that you wouldn't give up on him. I bet after you guys become friends or better friends, it would be easier for you to ask him.

well you'll never know what could happen unless you tell him. instead, you'll be left with "what if's" never knowing what could have or couldn't have been. I say go for it. if he says no, at least you aren't left with any "what if's" and if he says yes you can celebrate. good luck. hope i could help
