tips for talking on the phone or on aim

i like this girl and it's really easy for me to talk to her face to face, but when it comes to other forms of communication, im a dork beyond belief...
my question is once you have a girl's phone # or SN what are really good tips and topics that i can use?

Well, my situation is exactly the opposite...When I talk to a girl in person I usually start acting like a dork..Anyways..What I usually do is ask her how her day was or something along those lines...and then we just spiral (in a good way.) and we just normally end up talking for hours on end...Anyways, let me know if that works.

Be random. Start on one subject and expand to the next, keeping the conversation going with random ideas, thoughts, questions, you name it. The best way to keep any conversation going on the internet is to just be random when one topic dies down. Or expand upon the subject by asking questions, or sharing ideas. One thing leads to another.
As for the phone, there really is no way to be truly random, you can always expand upon ideas and thoughts but ultimately you will end up with that awkward silence. Unless your a talker type of person, it's hard to keep a conversation going. Try and use stories and small chat and from there, expand it to bigger things.
