Question Posted Thursday February 1 2007, 7:10 pm

with your period is it supposed to have an odor? Because mine has an odor kind of reminds me of popcorn kind of smell, I dont know how describe it. And I can smell it even with my clothes on and stuff? Help!

Also, what are scented pads supposed to do? Do they get rid of the smell or something? And are they not as good to use?

Yes, it has an odor. It shouldn't smell horrible though, if it smells sour you should probably be changing your pad more often. Most girls can smell it with their clothes on, but nobody else around you can smell it, trust me. I wouldn't suggest wearing a skirt and going without changing your pad for a day and then opening your legs, obviously.

Scented pads are supposed to block the smell of your menstrual blood. Do they get rid of the smell? Somewhat. They make it smell better, but it doesn't completley take it away. They aren't bad to use, but they have chemicals that can cause rashes and things like that. Your best bet is to stick with regular pads, since nobody around you can smell it anyway.

Menstrual fluids tend to have a scent, just as discharge does. Wearing a tampon will generally eliminate the smell. However, it's unlikely anyone else notices the odor when you wear a pad as long as you change your pad often.

Scented pads are supposed to mask the odor that comes with menstruation. They get a bad reputation because the scent can irritate your skin.
