Well if you really like her, you have to ask yourself this...will you regret not asking her out? If the answer is yes, then you have to just do it, even if it means doing it though instant message. Think of this way, you are going to do something you are absolutely nervous and shy about, but if you ask her out, and she says yes then you get the girl. It is even worth it if she says no, because then you won't be wasting your time on something that would never happen and you won't have to wonder...hmm would so and so ever have dated. You would have a definitive answer. Just do it! At the end, you'll feel better. It should serve as a learning experience anyway, once you have asked another person out, it should help you feel less shy.
