if you are trying to make a friend. start off talking to girls that you sit near in classes. it will be easier this way because you will always have something to talk about: the class. if you just took a test say something like "how do you think you did?" or if the teacher was really boring you can be like "wow i though that class was NEVER going to end" just small stuff to get the conversation going. then she will reply and then it should be easy to keep it going. and the good thing is, is that you can always try again the next day if you conversation ends quickly. try talking about school, sports, a new movie that came out (like have you seen __________ yet?). if you just want to be friends with the girl, then you shouldn't feel pressured to keep the conversation going.
if you want to go out with the girl start off small. you can start the conversation like i said above but at subtle hints in it. like if you have a class with her, then walk with her to class. you don't have to be obvious about it just say something like "i don't want to get that test back in science, i dont' think i did so well" and then you will be walking with her because you have been talking with her. some ways to flirt with a girl is to walk with her in the hall, and say hi and smile at her everytime you see her in the hall, and when you are talking to her make eye contact.
the easiest thing to talk about is school. because that is one thing that you have in common. also if you want to talk to her online before you do make a list of the things that you can say to her. think hard a make a list of at least 5 items that you guys can talk about. that way there is never an ackward pause in the conversation.
