eric clapton is considered both a rock and blues artist. his early stuff was mainly rock and roll, and then he got into blues music. so he's essentially blues rock. however, many people consider him the world's greatest guitarist either way. EDIT: i just thought of this, but i went to one of his concerts a few months ago, and he played a fair amount of rock music. he also played a few blues tunes. a lot of people consider him more of a rock artist, but i consider him a blues artist.
