(Also, use a wide-toothed comb- it's less damaging than a brush on wet hair.)
For this purpose I strongly recommend Suave for Kids Detangler. It works better than any other detangler, is $2.50 at WalMart, doesn't sting your eyes, and smells like apples. Seriously, you can't lose!
Then use a shine serum like Garnier Fructis Sleek&Shine, John Frienda FrizzEase, or Paul Mitchell Super Skinny. The last two are of a higher-quality. Super Skinny is rather expensive ($17 a bottle) but it lasts me about six months. For me, that's worth it. Scrunch your hair a little after applying .
Let your hair dry for awhile. You may already like how it looks. If not, use a smoothing/styling creme. I've tried oodles of products for this and my best advice here is to find one that you like the smell of, is easy on your budget, and designed for your hair type. Two that stand out (that aren't discontinued/impossible to find) are SunSilk 24/7 Creme and BedHead After Party. Scrunch your hair a little after putting this in as well.
Use a large-barrel curling iron to add a few more waves if you want to. Don't worry, the serums provide heat protection. If you're still concerned, use a protecting spray like VO5 Miracle! or TRESemme Thermal Creations.
Lastly, finish with hairspray. It'll hold your style and keep humidity out.
