Computer-to-computer (dial-up) connexion, bypassing Internet

Question Posted Monday December 18 2006, 8:11 am

Need instructions for setting up computer-to-computer link, via LD telephone (to a friend on a farm where there is no hi-speed access and no local dial-up service)for sending emails, and things I can get off the net for him.
I expect we could even use Windows 95 or 98 and older computers for this operation.
What adjustments or modifications would have to be made as far as our (two) computers are concerned?
What programming steps would we use?

if you have a phone you can connect to the internet no matter where you are. Just install a modem in the computer, find a dialup number and dial it with the modem. You can use a service like [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) which charges 1-6.5 cents/minute across the country.
