how does america work?

prsident, government, congress.. wtf? i undertans nothing! i do not live in america, so i don't need to study this.. (luckily! because i udnerstand NOTHING!) but still, while talking to people i don't want to be totally clueless! and i dont expect y'all to explain it all, im sure its complex.. but could you direct me to a website (easily understood) tha would explain it all, like how its connected, how it works, WHY you have it? and such.
