eBay

Question Posted Wednesday November 15 2006, 8:43 pm

So, I've bought items off eBay, but I'm thinking of selling stuff off of it too. How does that work? What do you have to do to sell something/send it to the person/recieve their payment?

Also, how do I determine shipping and handling and all that stuff? I'd appreciate if someone who actually sold items off eBay answered this. thanks.

Im only 13 but my dad does this all the time and I do alot of the work so for your shipping and handling it is mainly just the amount that it would take you to send the item. Like some things like game systems are heavy and cost quite a bit to ship to make sure you make a profit you make a shipping price of that amount. Some peopl also just add a few dollars for labour into that amount. You need to set up a paypal account to recieve payment mainly. You also just use the mailing address givenm to you to send it.

Hope that helps

Well. You set up an account with paypal.com similar to what you use if you use a credit card to purshase things. You need a debit card/checking/banking account, too. Once you've established a business account on paypal.com you find information about the item that you're selling. Say I was selling a Kodak digital camera. You go to the kodak websites, or walmart or whichever sells that camera, and basically copy the information like special features, what the camera consists of. Then you tell the buyers what kind of product it is, new or old, what condition its in, how many you have. etc etc. general information basically. You also let them know what kind of payments you accept. The easiest is paypal. Safe & Secure. Once they buy your item they will be sent to your paypal link, where they enter their credit card information, it will deposit money directly into your banking account. Once you know the money is there, you can ship their package.

As for shipping and handling information, shipping will obviously be their address or P.O box #. & handling goes by weight. Take a trip to your local post office, or ask UPS. They have a chart based on weights. Like for example, if something was 8 lbs, the price is oh.. idk.. 10 dollars? (thats not exact, its an estimate)

so.. 8 pounds-10 dollars
7 pounds - 9.50

something along those lines. Check it out at your post office and write it down. So you have a general idea on how much to charge them.
Once you've shipped a few packages you'll have a general idea of how much things are, its fairly easy.
I think thats it though, if you have any other questions you can also read the FAQ on ebay, or call UPS or your post office, im sure they deal with alot of ebay sellers.
