dying your hair

Question Posted Saturday September 9 2006, 2:50 pm

last night me and my friend tried to die the bottom half of our hair black, and the die just ended up making it dark brown. and it is not even that dark. we bought jet black hair dye. my hair is light brown normally, and hers was like a dirty blonde, and niehter of them came out black. does anyone recommend any good dyes or tips cause we are re-doing it tonight. and yes, we completley saturated our hair in dye, and we left it in long enough.

Ok, I do hair. And it's not that you probably didnt keep the dye in long enough. It's most likely because the pigment of her hair is resistant to the dye. Meaning her hair didnt accept the color and chemicals of the dye that was being used. Leave it as is for about a week or two before adding more chemicals to it. And try a different brand of dye. To make sure it will work, do a strand test on it. This means to take a small section or a fairly decent size amout of hair such as to do a high light and add the color to her hair. Let it process about 15 for as long as the box tells you to leave it in. Then rinse out that piece of hair to see how her hair took to the dye. You may need to experience with a few types/brands before you find one that is acceptable for her hair pigments. :) Hope this helped. Gl girls.

Yeah products from Hot topic work well.
Especially "Raw" but I'm not sure if they stock up with black anymore.

Did you keep it on over an hour? Maybe you should do that if you haven't or try it again.

I use revlon hiar dye and it works everytime i dye my hair. so thats what i recommend to use. Match you current hair color to the chart on the box and it should tell you what it will show up like. And i know you would like to re-do it again tonight but i highly doubt it would work because those kind of dyes you have to wait a while. i believe its either 6 weeks or 6 months. But i dont have a box with me right now. But read the box if you go get one. I know thats not what you wanted to hear but if you try to dye it a day later because you dont like it the color probly will not change at all.

hope this helps
kim:)

Also the person below said recommended Herbal Essencses. I would never use that brand because my mom tried it once to die her hair auburn brown and it turned it bright orange. Something wrong with their dyes.

You probably didn't keep the dye on long enough. For the full effect you had to keep it in your hair 30-45 mins, depending how light your hair is. Or rather it probably wasn't high-quality dye. Usually the ones that are cheap.

Next time try keeping it in longer, or buying the high quality dyes like Loreal or Herbal Essences.

Just wait at least 5 weeks to dye your hair again, or seek a professional hair stylist. You don't want to lose or damage your hair from the ammonia or peroxides.
