Honestly, you should tell him in person. It may be hard if you are shy because that is how I am but I've mostly gotten over that. Start flirting with him and all that good stuff. Let him think you like him. He should be the one to pop the question. If he doesn't ask, then you should consider asking him. Guys are just as shy as girls so don't forget that.
