Maybe you pulled a muscle have you been working out alot lately using your upper arm strength? Hmm, it could be anything. I would give it a week and see if it goes away and if it still hurts just as bad go see a doctor.

You didn't mention if the hurt place was discolored or swollen -- I'll assume it's not. I think chances are you just strained your shoulder somehow. I've done that before a few times and I can never even remember what I might have done to strain it. Just try not to stress out your shoulder with heavy physical activity or anything over the next few days. If the pain doesn't go away in a week or so, or if it gets much worse, see a doctor.

Most people are sometimes subject to random, seemingly causeless pains. I used to get this thing where my chest would, once or twice every few weeks, HURT BAD for a split second like I'd been stabbed, and I'd wince and gasp in pain, then the pain would go away. It went away on its own after a few years.
