I love Shakespere, but Romeo and Juliet (even though it is one of the most beautiful stories ever) can get boring when acted out by school aged kids. Something that could be good is to modernize the story, not like West Side Story, but like in a situation that might happen to one of your schoolmates.

Make sure to keep props and scenery simple. Dd details, but don't overdo it. Props are good when there is less than 5. If there are more it will be easy to forget about one of them.
