I think it's best to lie down. Often people just finger themselves when they're starting out and expect that to work, but usually it doesn't. Your clitoris is at the very front of your vagina, put two fingers on it, or just above if it's too sensitive and move them in circular motions. You can't get pregnant from masturbating, it's the safest form of sex. An orgasm is like a release of tension that feels really good, you get when sexually aroused, and if you're doing it right you should get one.
