The stylist must have been not to good at it with those people, but just in case you get one,but specific as you can be!I dont think that a perm will give you few waves, but they do give you VERYY soft curls.the range is from big natural curls or tight spiral curls. ^^(big curls, but you could ask the lady to do them looser than that, and it should come out to waves)and with your straight hair, that should come out as loose waves(depending on the stylist).also remember,if you use diff. shampoo and conditioner the perm will fall out gradually, which would probablyalso look like loose waves.(so for instance,if i got medium spiral curls, after a while i would have loose spiral curls) (it takes a while for the perm to come out)Also, just to add,my hair was very straight, until i got layers. Now my hair is very wavy.that might not be the same for you,but just to add in :)
i hope i helped!!
good luck !!
