In this day and age there shouldn't be anything to be ashamed of and admitting it shouldn't be a big deal. Unfortunately, it still is some places. You don't mention your age or where you're from so it's hard to judge what sort of reaction you'll get. Sorry that isn't much help but, just to reassure you, it doesn't mean you're devil spawn or a freak or anything else people might say.
